School Leadership

...endeavor to lead by love and with a gentle and kindly hand, not domineeringly or harshly, but showing loving-kindness in all things...
St. Angela Merici

Laurie Leiva, Academy President

Laurie Leiva has proven track record of transformative leadership, a commitment to educational access and excellence, and a deep understanding of Catholic education.  She earned her Master of Education at the University of South Carolina and her Bachelor’s in Psychology at Loyola.  She has also completed the two-year Ignatian Colleagues Program, sponsored by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities, which educates and forms administrators and faculty in the Jesuit and Catholic tradition of higher education. Before joining Ursuline Academy, Laurie led the Advancement Leadership Team at Loyola University New Orleans.

Sue Heidel '85, K-12 Principal

Suzanne Dorsey Heidel ’85 has over 29 years of distinguished experience in Catholic education. She holds a B.A. in English Literature from Louisiana State University, a Master of Theology from Notre Dame Seminary, and a Certificate in School Management and Leadership (CSML) from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Harvard Business School.

Mrs. Heidel is also trained in Design Thinking for educators and school innovation, having completed programs with 4.0 Schools, the Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, and Leadership & Design of California.

"It is an extraordinary experience to be part of the first girls' school in the United States and to know that we are part of an international network of over 100 Ursuline schools courageously following the path of St. Angela Merici. Ultimately, our work aims to ensure that every Ursuline girl knows that she is loved by God and has unique gifts to share with the world."

Milissa Anthony, Director of Early Childhood and Lily House

Milissa Anthony has been in our Ursuline Academy of New Orleans community since 2012. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Birth to Five Early Intervention from Nicholls State University. Before stepping solely into our Lily House and Early Childhood Learning Centers Director Designee position last school year, she was a toddler teacher in our Reggio inspired Center for 12 years. Throughout that time, she held the dual position of Director Designee and teacher for many of those years. This is where she gained a lot of Early Childhood knowledge through engaging in teaching and leadership experience. Milissa is excited to share and embody her favorite quote “Be a model in everything you do, so that your daughters may mirror themselves in you” from St. Angela with our Ursuline community.
