Serviam Prevails in COVID-19 Crisis

Emily Hufft Chatelain '05, Ursuline alumna and Executive Director of Three O'Clock Project is a true example of Serviam in our community. Three O'Clock Project, started by Emily in 2016, is a nonprofit organization that provides healthy meals and nutrition education for at-risk students after school. These meals are provided free of charge to students 18 and under and special needs students 21 and under. Also, working with Emily is classmate, Dana Corona Michell '05, who manages all of the marketing and communications for the organization. 

As the need arose for more meals for children during the current COVID-19 crisis, Three O'Clock Project stepped up. They have taken action to provide for children all over Louisiana by partnering with various school districts, restaurants, and organizations. They are currently serving Jefferson, East Baton Rouge, Plaquemines, and Livingston Parishes. They will also start serving St. Landry and Ascension Parishes. Governor John Bel Edwards recently approved the first grant for the COVID-19 Response Fund, which issued a $100,000 grant to the Three O'Clock Project to help them feed thousands of children across South Louisiana throughout the summer.

It's no doubt that Ursuline girls are truly shining in this dark and uncertain time. Afterall, they are molded to be trailblazers. Emily says that she often pulls her strength from the memory of Coach Marta Bott and the influence she had on Emily in high school. Emily states, “She’s been on my mind every day, and when I get overwhelmed or stressed out I ask myself 'What would Bott do?' I give myself pep talks through her memory.”

We are proud to have such giving and selfless alumnae. We commend Emily, Dana and all of the other alumnae who are working the front line of this pandemic.
