UA Girls Serve the Community on St. Angela's Feast Day
Ursuline girls honored our foundress, St. Angela Merici on Thursday, January 27th through a day of service. This special day began with Mass in the National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, where we recognized the faithful service of our Ursuline Sisters.
St. Angela's words, "live in harmony, united together, all of one heart and one will," were echoed by our celebrant Fr. Sidney Speaks as he said: "I believe that this school has boldly been proclaiming a truth that the world does not want to be bold about. You're living a truth that has not been lived. It's a truth that we must be together. Live unity."
Together, our Ursuline community celebrated both this important feast along with 1727 Day - a day to honor the Academy's founding year. 1st & 2nd graders served at Chateau de Notre Dame, 3rd grade rolled up their sleeves at Hands On, 4th grade performed at Lafreniere Assisted Living, 6th grade organized and boxed donated items at Catholic Charities, 7th graders supported Vintage Baptist Church’s ‘Fill the Fridge’ initiative by preparing bags for those in need, 8th grade spent quality time with the community members of Inspired Living, 5th & 9th graders created comfort books for St. Rita, 10th graders created hands-on activities for students at St. Michael Special School, 11th graders made bags for the homeless at St. Vincent DePaul and distributed food to the homeless at New Orleans Mission, and finally 12th graders planted trees for our wetlands at the Woodland Conservancy.
