Happy Feet Sock Drive

Ursuline Academy headed up the Happy Feet Sock Drive again in 2022! Ursuline alumna, Tulane graduate, and Yale student, Ingeborg Hyde '17, started the program during her 8th-grade year at Ursuline. It was at that time that she saw a need for socks for the homeless on very cold winter nights. In an attempt to help more people, Ingeborg reached out to students at other schools in the New Orleans Metro Area to spearhead the effort at their own schools.

Serving others through the Happy Feet effort teaches students that they do not need to have a lot of material resources to make a difference in the world. The only thing needed is a box to collect gently used socks. In this simplicity, the Happy Feet program allows service through playing an active part in helping our immediate community. Advertising for donations is handled via announcements at school, via social media, etc.

This year, the program was headed up by Lourdes Maristany and Lillian Wiseman and raised 277 pairs of socks from Ursuline and over 4,000 pairs of socks from all schools in the New Orleans area. They were donated to the  Ozanam Inn's new facility at 2239 Poydras St. The team worked with Mr. Jerry Ruffin from Ozanam Inn to deliver the socks on Saturday, February 12th. And to make it even more special, Ingeborg was able to join our Ursuline girls via Facetime from Yale to be part of the donation!
