High School Tennis Competes in Division III Regionals
Ursuline’s HS Tennis team recently participated in Division III Regionals April 11th and 12th at Xavier University for an opportunity to advance to the State Tennis Tournament.
In the Doubles division, coming off a first round bye, Senior’s Isabelle Foret and Lauren Harper matched up against Archbishop Hannan’s E. Brown and A. Esneault. With the threat of lighting and rain, Foret and Harper played superb tennis taking the first set 6-1. In the second set Hannan came alive, fighting back 4-6 to force a 10-point tiebreaker. In the tie breaker Ursuline led 9-7 when play was halted due to lighting. Once play resumed Ursuline’s Foret returned a fast serve winning the point and match 10-8, advancing to the Quarterfinals. In the Quarter’s Ursuline played a grueling match against Newman’s L. Payne and D. Phillips, succumbing 1-6, 2-6.
Senior Mya Falgout and Junior Kaitlyn Ables partnered up and played amazing tennis winning their Round 1 match against St. Charles Academy’s J. St. Martin and K. TrIchell, 6-1, 6-2. In the second round their solid and consistent team play wasn’t enough, falling to the eventual Runner up Newman’s V. Cunningham and G. Gray, 0-6, 0-6.
The team’s final entry in doubles, Senior Megan Pulizzano and Sophomore Kelsa Marie Jacobs paired up against John Curtis’s C. Bruno and P. Peters in Round 1, dominating the court 6-0, 6-0. In their second round match against Archbishop Hannan’s J. Delaune and S. Smycynski the ball didn’t bounce their way, the final score 0-6, 0-6.
In Round 1 of singles play, Ursuline’s highly courageous 8th grader Myla George went to battle against Archbishop Hannan’s K. Schwartz. Myla’s strong serve and powerful forehand won many points but weren’t enough, 0-6, 0-6.
Congratulations to Senior’s Isabelle Foret and Lauren Harper for making it to the Quarterfinals in Regionals. This dynamic duo will now travel to Monroe April 25-26 to represent Ursuline in the State Tennis Tournament. GO LIONS!!
