Scholarships and Tuition Assistance

Our scholarship and tuition assistance program strives to support families and students in attending Ursuline Academy. Students may qualify in the spring before the upcoming school year.

Tuition Assistance may be available to any qualifying student in 1st through 12th grade. Scholarships are only open to incoming 8th graders.

MERIT AWARDS
Ursuline Academy awards scholarships based on academic merit, personal conduct and High School Placement Test scores. Students whose scores qualify for merit awards will be notified. These scholarships may be renewed yearly if the student’s grade point average qualifies.

  • Alumnae Scholarship

    8th grade / Renewable / Download Application
    Ursuline Academy offers a total of two (2) Ursuline Alumnae Scholarships. These scholarships are partial tuition scholarships offered to incoming 8th grade students who are legacies to Ursuline Academy, meaning a daughter or granddaughter of an Ursuline Academy of New Orleans graduate.  Ursuline Academy will notify students who are eligible to apply for these scholarships after incoming 8th grade students complete all criteria for entry into Ursuline Academy’s High School and are accepted into Ursuline Academy’s High School. Please see the Alumnae Scholarship application for the requirements of this scholarship. Applications must be returned by April 1, 2016.
  • Madeleine and Emanuel Blessey Scholarship

    8th Grade / $3000 / Renewable
    Please contact the Office of Admissions for information on applying.Available for the 2016-2017 school year for an incoming 8th grade student.  An application will be filled out by applicant, including an essay with a minimum of 250 words that describes, in detail, an applicant’s educational goals and committment to community service; one letter of recommendation from applicant’s principal or current teacher; and a parent or guardian must fill out an online application at www.smartaidforparents.com. Upon acceptance of the scholarship, the recipient shall maintain a 3.6 weighted average and participate in at least one extracurricular activity each year. Applications must be returned by April 1, 2016.
  • Deborah Augustine Elam Leadership Scholarship

    11th Grade / Renewable
    Please contact the Office of Admissions for information on applying. Was awarded for the first time in May 2016 to a rising junior. An application will be filled out by applicant, including at an essay question detailing her leadership experience to date and her hopes for the future.  She will attach copies of report cards from the past two years, standardized test scores and one letter of recommendation from an adult not related to the applicant. Student shall submit a resume detailing her leadership experience to date. Upon acceptance of the scholarship, the recipient shall maintain a 3.6 weighted average and participate in at least one extra-curricular activity each year.
  • Gironde Merit Award

    8th grade / $1000 / One-time Award / Download application
    Incoming 8th grade students are eligible for a Gironde Merit Scholarship, a partial one-time tuition award for $1,000. This award was established to recognize an incoming high school student’s exemplary academic performance in current and prior school years. An application will be filled out by applicant, including an essay with a minimum of 250 words that describes, in detail, an applicant’s educational goals and committment to community service; one letter of recommendation from applicant’s principal or current teacher; and a parent or guardian must fill out an online application at www.smartaidforparents.com. To apply, students must complete and return the Gironde Merit Award application by April 1, 2016.
  • Valda Gisevius Memorial Scholarship

    8th Grade / $500 / Renewable
    Please contact the Office of Admissions for information on applying.Available for the 2016-2017 school year for an incoming 8th grade student.  An application will be filled out by applicant, including an essay with a minimum of 250 words that describes, in detail, an applicant’s educational goals and committment to community service; one letter of recommendation from applicant’s principal or current teacher; and a parent or guardian must fill out an online application at www.smartaidforparents.com. Upon acceptance of the scholarship, the recipient shall maintain a 3.6 weighted average and participate in at least one extracurricular activity each year. Applications must be returned by April 1, 2016.
  • Helen and Vincent McGrail Scholarship

    8th grade / $500-$2500 / Renewable
    Incoming 8th graders may qualify for the Helen and Vincent McGrail Need-Based Scholarship.  An application will be filled out by applicant, including an essay with a minimum of 250 words that describes, in detail, an applicant’s educational goals and committment to community service; one letter of recommendation from applicant’s principal or current teacher; and a parent or guardian must fill out an online application at www.smartaidforparents.com. Qualified applicants must maintain cumulative weighted 3.0 GPA or above, with no semester grade lower than a C, have good conduct, and embrace the Ursuline ideal of Serviam.   Continued excellence in academic performance, with no semester grade lower that a C, and completion of required service hours will be necessary to renew this scholarship each year. The Helen and Vincent McGrail Scholarship is a partial assistance award and varies from $500.00 to $2500.00. 
  • Peyroux-Taylor Scholarship

    8th Grade / $2500 / Renewable
    Please contact the Office of Admissions for information on applying.Available for the 2016-2017 school year for an incoming 8th grade student.  An application will be filled out by applicant, including an essay with a minimum of 250 words that describes, in detail, an applicant’s educational goals and committment to community service; one letter of recommendation from applicant’s principal or current teacher; and a parent or guardian must fill out an online application at www.smartaidforparents.com. Upon acceptance of the scholarship, the recipient shall maintain a 3.6 weighted average and participate in at least one extracurricular activity each year. Applications must be returned by April 1, 2016.
  • President's Merit Award

    8th grade / $3500 / Renewable
    Incoming 8th grade students who earned a High School Placement Test score of 98 or 99 and a non-weighted 3.8 GPA or above are eligible for a $3500 scholarship. Students must maintain a weighted GPA of 3.8 and no semester grade lower than a B for a $3500 scholarship to be renewed in grades 9-12. Qualifying students are automatically notified via mail. 

    An application will be filled out by applicant, including an essay with a minimum of 250 words that describes, in detail, an applicant’s educational goals and committment to community service; one letter of recommendation from applicant’s principal or current teacher; and a parent or guardian must fill out an online application at www.smartaidforparents.com. Applications must be returned by April 1, 2016.
  • Principal's Merit Award

    8th grade / $3000 / Renewable
    Incoming 8th grade students who earned a High School Placement Test score of 96 or above and a non-weighted 3.6 GPA or above are eligible for a $3000 scholarship. Students must maintain a weighted GPA of 3.6 and no semester grade lower than a B for a $3000 scholarship to be renewed in grades 9-12. Qualifying students are automatically notified via mail.

  • Tuition Assistance/Work Study

    Available to Students in K – 12th Grade
    Ursuline Academy offers a limited amount of partial tuition assistance on the basis of financial need. The school cannot guarantee that the amount of tuition assistance a family needs can be provided. Students must maintain a cumulative semester 2.0 GPA, demonstrate good conduct and Serviam to receive financial assistance. Ursuline Academy requires that students in grades 5-12 seeking financial assistance for tuition participate in a work study program. All students must complete 30 hours of service in an assigned position to receive funding. For students in grades K-4, parents must fill the 30 hour service requirement. Work study funds will not be provided until all 30 hours of service are complete. All families must apply for financial assistance through Smart Aid for Parents (www.smartaidforparents.com).

The school cannot guarantee that the amount of tuition assistance a family needs can be provided. Students must maintain a cumulative semester 2.0 GPA, demonstrate good conduct and Serviam to receive financial assistance. Ursuline Academy requires that students in grades 5-12 seeking financial assistance for tuition participate in a work study program. All students must complete 30 hours of service in an assigned position to receive funding. For students in grades K-4, parents must fill the 30 hour service requirement. Work study funds will not be provided until all 30 hours of service are complete. All families must apply for financial assistance through Smart Aid for Parents (www.smartaidforparents.com).

How to Apply Online for Tuition Aid
To access the online application, please go to www.smartaidforparents.com. For first time applicants, you will need to register as a new user. From there you will be prompted to enter a valid e-mail address along with a password of your choice. It is important your e-mail address is correct, as email is the first line of communication.  For returning applicants, simply log in with your previous year’s login information.
