Scholarships and Tuition Assistance

Our scholarship and tuition assistance program strives to support families and students in attending Ursuline Academy. Students may qualify in the spring before the upcoming school year.

Tuition Assistance may be available to any qualifying student in 1st through 12th grade. Scholarships are only open to incoming 8th graders and above.

The following scholarships are available for the 2018-2019 school year:

Merit-Based Scholarship Opportunities

  • Alumnae Scholarship

    Incoming 8th or 9th grade / Renewable
    Ursuline Academy offers a total of two (2) Ursuline Alumnae Scholarships. These are partial tuition scholarships offered to incoming 8th and 9th grade students who are legacies to Ursuline Academy, meaning a daughter or granddaughter of an Ursuline Academy of New Orleans graduate. Requirements to apply for this scholarship can be found on the Alumnae Scholarship Application. Completed applications must be returned by March 30, 2018.
  • President's Merit Award

    Incoming 8th grade / $3,500 / Renewable
    Incoming 8th grade students who earned a High School Placement Test score of 98 or 99 and have a non-weighted 3.8 GPA or above are eligible for the President’s Merit Scholarship worth $3,500. Awarded students must maintain a weighted GPA of 3.8 and earn no semester grade lower than a B in order for the full scholarship amount to be renewed for grades 9-12. Qualifying students will be automatically notified via mail.
  • Principal's Merit Award

    Incoming 8th grade / $3,000 / Renewable
    Incoming 8th grade students who earned a High School Placement Test score of 96 or above and a non-weighted 3.6 GPA or above are eligible for the Principal’s Merit Scholarship worth $3,000. Awarded students must maintain a weighted GPA of 3.6 and earn no semester grade lower than a B in order for the full scholarship amount to be renewed for grades 9-12. Qualifying students will be automatically notified via mail.
  • Gironde Merit Award

    8th grade / $1,000 / One-time Award
    Incoming 8th grade students may apply for a Gironde Merit Scholarship, a one-time partial tuition award worth $1,000. This award was established to recognize a student’s exemplary academic performance in current and prior school years. To be considered, applicants should complete Ursuline’s Scholarship Application, submit one letter of recommendation from applicant’s principal or current teacher, and write an essay with a minimum of 250 words that describes, in detail, the applicant’s educational goals and commitment to community service.
  • Coleman Family STEM Scholarship

    Incoming or rising 11th or 12th grade / $500 / One-Time Award
    Incoming or rising 11th and 12th grade students may apply for a Coleman Family STEM Scholarship, a one-time partial tuition award worth $500. To be considered, applicants should complete the Coleman Family STEM Scholarship application, submit one letter of recommendation from a principal or current teacher, and write an essay with a minimum of 250 words that describes how STEM careers help change the world in which we live.

Need-Based Scholarships

To be considered, applicants should complete Ursuline’s Scholarship Application, as well as the following: an essay with a minimum of 250 words that describes, in detail, an applicant’s educational goals and commitment to community service; one letter of recommendation from applicant’s principal or current teacher; and a parent or guardian must fill out a SMART Aid online application atwww.smartaidforparents.com. Applications must be submitted by March 30, 2018.

  • Helen and Vincent McGrail Scholarship

    $500-$2,500 / Renewable
    The Helen and Vincent McGrail Need-Based Scholarship is a partial tuition award and varies from $500 to $2,500. In order to maintain and renew this scholarship, awarded students must continue academic excellence by earning a cumulative weighted 3.0 GPA or above, earn no semester grade lower than a C, have good conduct, and embrace the Ursuline ideal of Serviam by completing required service hours each year.
  • Valda Gisevius Memorial Scholarship

    Incoming 8th or 9th Grade/ $2,300 /Renewable
    This scholarship was established to recognize an incoming high school student’s exemplary academic performance in current and prior school years. Upon acceptance of the scholarship, the recipient must maintain a 3.6 weighted GPA and participate in at least one extracurricular activity each year.
  • Peyroux-Taylor Scholarship

    8th Grade / $2,500 / Renewable
    This scholarship was established to recognize an incoming high school student’s exemplary academic performance in current and prior school years. Upon acceptance of the scholarship, the recipient must maintain a 3.6 weighted GPA and participate in at least one extracurricular activity each year.
  • Superior Energy Inc. Scholarship

    8th Grade / $2,500 / Renewable
    This scholarship was established to recognize an incoming high school student’s exemplary academic performance in current and prior school years. Upon acceptance of the scholarship, the recipient must maintain a 3.6 weighted GPA and participate in at least one extracurricular activity each year.

Tuition Assistance

Smart Aid deadline: March 30, 2017

Available to all Ursuline Academy students in K – 12th Grades
Ursuline Academy offers a limited amount of partial tuition assistance on the basis of financial need. The school cannot guarantee that the amount of tuition assistance a family needs can be provided. Students must maintain a cumulative semester 2.0 GPA, demonstrate good conduct and Serviam to receive financial assistance. Ursuline Academy requires that students in grades 5-12 seeking financial assistance for tuition participate in a work study program. All students must complete 30 hours of service in an assigned position to receive funding. For students in grades K-4, parents must fulfill the 30 hour service requirement. Work study funds will not be provided until all 30 hours of service are complete. All families must apply for financial assistance through Smart Aid for Parents (www.smartaidforparents.com) by March 30, 2017.

How to Apply Online for Tuition Aid
To access the online application, please go to www.smartaidforparents.com. For first time applicants, you will need to register as a new user. From there you will be prompted to enter a valid e-mail address along with a password of your choice. It is important your e-mail address is correct, as email is the first line of communication.  For returning applicants, simply log in with your previous year’s login information.
