It was the conviction of the Ursuline Sisters in 1727 that the education of women was essential.

The Sisters firmly believed it was necessary in the development of a civilized, spiritual society. Because of these brave and forward-thinking women, Ursuline Academy of New Orleans is the oldest school for women and the oldest Catholic school in the United States.
